What an uplifting novel. If only I had had the spirited and socially conscious Lola Zola as a role model when I was growing up. I did manage to take home a few Emmys, produce a radio show, and trade jokes with my grandchildren (the highlight of my life), but the journey would have been a lot smoother with Lola Zola Desert Detective around to steer me clear of the swindlers and smooth talkers. What a smart and tenacious tween! She’s not only a brilliant sleuth, fast on the uptake with a nose for sniffing out nonsense, but also a natural politician who can woo a crowd with realizable visions for a better and saner world. Lola Zola, I adore you and so will my grandchildren.
Lola Zola is a delightful sixth grader with a heart and a conscience. In Lola Zola Desert Detective, the 11-year old has the 'smarts' to navigate her way through zany adventures with Melanie and Ruby Rhubarb, and challenge Barton Beasley when he rolls into town.
Consider this novel, the third in the Lola Zola series, another charming ride through an eleven-year-old's life, with twists and turns, and lessons to be learned about friendship, greed, and enterprising ventures - like lemon cupcakes. Delicious story!

stock sure to make America greater than great. Yes, the Bingo King is a
kick – and only Lola can top his cleverness and magnetism. This book
belongs in every library. Lola Zola and the Desert Detective is a tween
mystery like no other.
This book is a terrific gift for tween girls 9 -13, who struggle to understand who they are and what their place is in a world in which adults don’t always know best. Set in the desert town of Mirage, where the usual front porch chit-chat centers on how much the cactus is growing, a fast-talking stranger ignites a firestorm of greed and gullibility. Perplexed, Lola summons her investigatory powers, rolls up her t-shirt sleeves, and goes to work with her BFF’s and heart-pounding crush along for the ride, and what a wild ride it is! My daughter enjoyed Lola Zola and the Lemonade Crush -- and this is just as fun. I enthusiastically recommend it for tweens – and for parents to read with their tweens, as the book can be read on multiple levels.
I absolutely love this series! Desert Detective might be the best one yet. My daughter is only 5, but when she becomes a tween I'm excited for her to journey with Lola!
Throughout the book, Lola Zola is thoughtful and caring and when something seems wrong or unfair, she takes action. That's what I like about her character. I'm sending this book to my Niece who read the first two of the Lola Zola books and loved them.
